An ER nurse bought a red light therapy panel hoping it would help a family member’s chronic fatigue — and found that every stand on the market either holds the panel upright, or is too flimsy, too bulky or too expensive to hold it face-down.

The problem

Turning a panel to face the floor changes the structural problem completely:

  • The load goes overhead. A panel above a person lying down must be unambiguously secure — this is the requirement that outranks everything else.
  • Existing stands are the wrong shape, so the design had to start from the panel rather than from a stand and be adapted.
  • The panel already has anchor points. Several of them, which is an opportunity: the mounting can use what the manufacturer provided instead of clamping the housing.
  • Reconfigurable legs. The client wanted the rear legs removable and re-attachable at the top of the panel so it can be flipped to face downward.
  • It had to be 3D printable, since this was a one-off for a family member, not a production run.

The approach

  • Mount into the anchor points, so load transfers into the panel’s own structure rather than into a clamp that grips a plastic case.
  • A saddle-style bracket carrying the panel, with the printed legs attaching to that saddle — separating the interface from the structure so either can be revised alone.
  • Legs designed for print orientation, with sections aligned so layer lines run across the load rather than along a potential fracture path.
  • Symmetric attachment at both positions, so the same legs serve upright and face-down configurations without duplicate parts.

The result

A complete stand design with printable parts, mounting saddle and reconfigurable leg attachment.
