DWG NO. WOODEN-FRAGRAN DATE 2024-08 PORTFOLIO

Solid Walnut Fragrance Cap with Perforated Texture

A luxury perfume cap machined entirely from dark walnut — no metal parts — with a blind perforated texture, engraved initials and a cord attachment detail.

Solid Walnut Fragrance Cap with Perforated Texture

A returning client’s fragrance brand wanted a cap that reads as luxury the moment it is picked up — and specified that it must be wood, all the way through.

The problem

The brief was unusually precise, and precision is what makes it hard:

  • Wood only. No metal insert, no hidden liner. Whatever holds the cap on the bottle has to be machined into the wood itself.
  • Dark walnut, chosen for its natural depth rather than for stain.
  • A ribbed texture of small perforated squares on the sides — and crucially the perforations must not pass through. Blind features in wood, at that scale, are a machining question before they are an aesthetic one.
  • An indentation on the top matching the reference photo.
  • Initials in a specified typeface, centred on the top.
  • A cord attachment integrated into the design.

The approach

  • Texture built as real geometry, not as a surface finish note, so the CAD drives the toolpath rather than leaving the shop to interpret it.
  • Feature depth set for the material. Blind perforations in walnut were proportioned so the pattern reads crisply without approaching break-out at the thin ribs.
  • Lettering as machined relief in the requested typeface, dimensioned so neither engraving nor embossing loses definition at that size.
  • Thread and cord features integrated into the solid, keeping the promise that there is no metal anywhere in the part.
  • A drawing package alongside the CAD, because a wood shop needs dimensions and finish notes, not just a model.

The result

A complete cap design with CAD file and technical drawing, delivered across multiple render rounds until the texture and proportions matched the brand’s intent.

Where this applies

Luxury packaging and machined natural materials, where the product is judged on detail quality at arm’s length. The tolerance that matters is visual — and it still has to be dimensioned.
